The celebrations began on Friday, October 11th, 2013 with cocktails offered to employees in the various locations of Shell Gabon (Libreville, Port-Gentil, Rabi, Toucan & Koula). Later in the evening a free concert was held in Gamba with Gamba local artists and visiting ones attended by more than 200 people in the presence of Gamba local authorities and Deputy Minister of Economy , Labour and Sustainable Development, Desiré Guedon, representing the Head of State.

The following day, on Saturday October 12th, several dignitaries including the Nigerian Ambassador, Shell Gabon Board members and General Managers of oil companies among which (Union Oil Gabon), Theodore Iyeze (Total Gabon), Rodney MacAlister (Vaalco), Serge Fosso Wamba (Schlumberger), Joseph Denis Antchouey (Oil Lybia) Jean-Medard Madama (Tullow Oil), Ulrich Beh Essono (Engen), Jean Baptiste Bikalou (Petro Gabon) and David Gaichies (Ogec), travelled to Gamba for the event.

The day in Gamba began with a visit to Gamba 4 oil well one of the first wells drilled in 1963 and Minister Guédon unveiled a commemorative plaque.

The program followed in the afternoon with a football match between Shell Corpo team and Gamba. The latter won the game during the penalty shootout.

An evening Gala closed the celebrations with a speech by Godson. In his speech Godson stated that “celebrating the 50 years of discovery of the Gamba oil field, is an exceptional event that reflects both the duration of our presence in Gamba, the contribution staff and our long standing relationship with the Gabonese government and local communities. A great performance of Gabonese artists and Shell staff put an end to the evening.
